• 5 cent
• 2 cent

The highlight is the impressive 1978 proof R1, struck in 80% silver, weighing 15 grams and containing approximately 12 grams of pure silver. The remaining denominations are struck in nickel and bronze.

All coins display the South African coat of arms on the obverse and classic wildlife, floral and national designs on the reverse. Presented in its attractive red velvet-lined case. The eight-coin short proof set reportedly had a limited mintage of approximately 7,000 sets.

The coins remain highly presentable, although some toning, marks and possible handling or storage wear are visible. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.

A desirable original Republic-era set for collectors of South African proof coins and silver R1 issues.
