This piece remains in a GOOD, USED CONDITION- Blade and Handle appear to be complete & secure. Graphic Design Relief Inlay is clear and detailed , with mother of pearl scales showing minor wear on Hilt shaft. An EXCELLENT example of a 19th Century Ottoman Turkish Empire, Jambiya Dagger with Gold & Silver Damascene Inlay. This piece remains in a well-preserved state, featuring beautifully rendered Arabesque Damascene scrollwork in precious Gold and Silver. The Steel Blade retains an exceptionally sharp tip and cutting edge , displaying a mild surface patina. Carefully applied Mother of Pearl scales adorn the mid-section of the Hilt and appear to have lost 2 or 3 pieces due to age-related handling.
A Stunning item combining elements of form & function , such as this - would have belonged to a regional Governor or Pasha / Beylerbey from either Damascus or Aleppo in Syria. The Ottoman Jambiya , was considered not only a good means of self-defence , but more importantly as a symbol of rank & distinction in the Turkish Sultanate.
