All ships in the South African carry an official badge, sometimes incorrectly referred to as crests. The badge illustrates the ship's name and the historical associations of the ship in a simple, easy to create design. The badges on offer are all of the old obsolete pre 2002 design with the SA Navy Lion on the crest. These were replaced in 2002 with the Bird crest of the new Cote of Arms
