Beautiful Omega Constellation Automatic 14k Gold and Stainless Steel.
Chronometer Officially Certified.
Nicely looked after. Keeps time 100%.
Was presented to R. F Fowles for 30 years of service at Caltex Oil SA.
The estimated intrinsic gold value is around R15000 with the current 14k gold price at around R600/gram.
The calculation for this is at the end of the description.
Besides the gold, the watch is a collectors item as they are found far and few between.
The model is a mid 70s model. Powered by the calibre 1011 the 168.0055 came in a range of dial colours and styles, including maroon and blue. Both plain and knurled bezels were available, depending on the metal content of the watch.
This model on auction has a 14k solid gold knurled bezel to match the 14k gold inserts in the bracelet.
The inside of one of the links has been scratched deeply to be tested. This can be polished out at a jeweller.
The dial is in good condition. The one or two spots and marks that can be seen on the pictures looks like dirt that can be cleaned.
Overall the watch is very attractive. The total weight of the watch is 96 grams.
The calculation for the gold:
14k gold links:
Thickness: +- 0.60 mm
Length: +- 9.00 mm x 2 = 18.00mm (bottom and top of link)
Width: +- 4.50 mm
0.60 x 18.00 x 4.50 = 0.0486 cm3 Gold
0.0486 x 28 links = 1.3608 cm3 Gold
1.3608 x 14g (14k gold weight)
=19.0512 grams of 14k Gold
14k bezel:
Diameter: 35mm
Circumference in a straight line : 110mm
Width: 2mm
Height: 2mm
110 x 2 x 2 = 0.44cm3
0.44 x 14g (14k gold weight)
= 6.16 grams of 14k gold
Total gold weight estimate:
19.05 + 6.16
= +- 25.21 grams of 14k gold
