(31) Missing Variety. Scarce Control Block. Superb Unmounted Mint.

Any collector with even a basic knowledge of Union stamps will surely know that the catalogue value of this block (for cylinder block alone) must surely be a joke.  Just compare its scarcity to other union items of a similar “value”.  In 20 years of dealing I have handled many times  more “Charcoal Centre” Control Blocks (catalogued at R500-00 per control block) than “Missing 31” Control Blocks.

Union of South Africa.  1947 ½d issue.  Extended Control Block “70 31 with 31 missing” and sheet number.  Scarce and hopelessly undercatalogued.  Superb Unmounted Mint.
