A VERY RARE HARRACH 'HARRTIL' VASE, DESIGNED IN 1955 BY MILOS PULPITEL AND RUDOLPH SCHWEDLER
PUBLISHED IN 'HI SKLO LO SKLO' AND 'SKLO: CZECH GLASS DESIGN' : PATTERN 5/3688
'The Harrachov 'Harrtil' pattern was designed in 1955 by the technical director Milos Pulpitel, and was inspired by historic Venetian lace glass. After numerous attempts, the use of woven glass fibres was reputedly inspired by a mass of overhead telephone cables. Forms are typically 1950s in their organic and often asymmetric nature. Shapes were designed by Milan Metelak, Marie Stahlikova and Milena Veliskova in the late 1950s. Vases are harder to find than bowls.' (Mark Hill).

* Please note that glass from the mid-20th century is vintage glassware and age related signs of wear such as small fine surface scratches/marks should be expected. The items are hand-made, they may have imperfections such as bubbles, inclusions and lumps within the glass. Tool marks from where they have been shaped and worked in the manufacturing process can often be seen. As this indicates authenticity and forms an inherent part of the character of handmade crystal glass, these are normally not considered as faults by collectors.
* This magnificent item is original and rare, hand-made Czech art glass (and not Italian Murano, Daum, Kosta Boda, Orrefors, Flygsfors, Swarovski, Leerdam, Val St Lambert, Whitefriars or Lalique studio glass). I personally handpicked this rare beauty for my private collection, but now need to scale down as a result of retirement.
* Appreciation and acknowledgement to Messrs Mark Hill, Jindrich Parik and the Vychodoceske Museum for their invaluable archival and comprehensive reference material. XKO2B
