Offered here is a fascinating Roman Imperial bronze nummus/follis of Constantine II, eldest son of the famous Emperor Constantine the Great, struck while Constantine II held the title of Caesar.

OBVERSE
Features the laureate portrait of the young Constantine II facing right, surrounded by the remains of the imperial Latin legend:
CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C
Meaning essentially Constantine the Younger, Most Noble Caesar.
REVERSE
The reverse carries the important CAESARVM NOSTRORVM votive type, with the central VOT inscription enclosed within a ceremonial laurel wreath.
These votive inscriptions commemorated vows undertaken for the continued rule and prosperity of Romes Caesars.
ALMOST 1,700 YEARS OF HISTORY
Constantine II was the son of Constantine the Great, the emperor whose reign transformed the Roman Empire and whose name became permanently associated with Constantinople and the rise of Christianity within the Roman world.
This small bronze coin was struck during that extraordinary Constantinian period and actually circulated within the Roman Empire approximately seventeen centuries ago.
CONDITION
A genuine ancient circulated example with substantial wear, dark aged patina, surface deposits and loss of finer detail.
Importantly, enough remains to identify the Constantine II portrait and major elements of the surrounding legends and votive-wreath reverse.
