 About The Artist

IRMA DE WAAL lives and works as a full-time artist in the Wilderness, South Cape. She completed her BA FINE ARTS Degree at the University of Stellenbosch in 1975, majoring in the Art of Painting and the History of Art.

She is from Africa and therefore shares the rhythm and the pulse of the people and the warmth and colourfulness of the colours that is so unique to this continent.

Irma paints tipical South African scenes - these include landscapes, African people and still life.

Her portraits and figure studies focus mainly on women of all generations and backgrounds. It is therefore no surprise that her awareness for movement and expression of the human body became the main source of her inspiration.

Irma works mainly in oils on stretched canvas, applying the paint with bold brush strokes in an impressionistic way.
