MORE ANCIENT JEWELRY
ABOUT THIS RING: | Ancient Roman Empire Legionary Ring: This fantastic find and gorgeous ring is none other than the ancient Roman Twentieth Victorious Valerian Legion. It is a weighty ring and has been perfectly preserved. It's band starts off thick with a defined protrusive mould in the center and expands even more at it's shoulders. The bezel is oval in shape and adorns the most intricately incised patterns all over it's surface. The two "XX" down the center signifying the Twentieth Legion. A rich mix of natural earthen and pale blue patina is retained all over the ring exposing a beautiful golden-hued bronze underneath. It's details are just as clear as when it was first made. Legio Vigesima Valeria Victrix ( Twentieth Victorious Valerian Legion) was a Roman legion probably raised by Augustus sometime after 31 BC. It served in Hispania, Illyricum and Germania before participating in the invasion of Britannia in 43 AD. It remained active in the Province until at least the beginning of the 4th Century. A handsome adornment worn by a brave member of the legion - a real keeper. Truly a wonderful item and perfectly wearable. |
