"BIG GAME - WANDERINGS IN MANY LANDS" FRANK WALLACE, FIRST EDITION 1934, HARDCOVER, 288 PAGES, SMALL TEARS TO THE TOP AND BOTTOM OF THE SPINE, IN GOOD CONDITION.
A scarce first edition work on hunting big game across various different continents, written by Harold Frank Wallace with various photograph plates. First and only edition, very scarce. Illustrations include a frontispiece as well as twelve illustrated plates, most of which are photographs. This is a work chronicling Wallace's experience travelling and hunting 'big game' in various different parts of the world. Though the author spends a significant amount of time reminiscing on his time hunting various different animals, the work finishes with a meditation on why animals must be protected. Wallace states that without protective measures being put in place, travellers to places like Africa will gaze down from their airplane to see 'only the silent places and the shadow of clouds passing across their empty loneliness'. Contents include 'Some Personal Reflections and Notes on Collections of Big Game', 'A Visit to Russia', 'Australia: Fallow Deer and Kangaroo', and 'The Preservation of Big Game'.Harold Frank Wallace (1881-1962) was a British author and painter. He spent most of his life in the Highlands, and was the Deer Controller for Scotland during World War II.
