A total of two slides depict the fortified & entrenched plateau - as well as the Boer Bridge on the Tugela. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. 

The Battle for Hart's Hill, formed part of the Tugela Heights offensive by Sir Redvers Buller in an attempt to relieve besieged Ladysmith. The action involved forces of the Irish Brigade and Commando elements of Boer General, Louis Botha.
