*CHRISTOPHORUS* ORIGINAL BOXED CANVAS PAINTING BY WELL KNOW SOUTH AFRICAN ARTIST
Christophorus is a well known artist in the West Coast, his love and passion for the simplistic lifestyle of the West Coast has captured the heart of the artist. From an early age he had a love for drawing and this talent was soon discovered by friends and family.
Doing live portrait commission in shopping centres was a next step in his development as an artist.
During his early twenties he was introduced to painting in oil. A medium he worked with for the next 30 years. His early works featured scenes of the bush veld, landscapes, seascapes, wildlife and also still life and portraits.
In 2001 Christo relocated from Roodepoort to the West Coast to become a full time artist. There he opened his own art gallery in Langebaan. He relocated to St Helena bay where the daily activities of the fishermen and the harbor made a deep impression on him that soon reflected in his harbor scene paintings.
The bright and happy colours in his paintings reflect his passion for the West Coast lifestyle in a unique and very appreciative manner. His paintings are very popular with art loving tourist. Paintings of the small and ever popular Paternoster with its fisherman activities and houses has become synonym with the artist.
In 2008 he started to work in acrylic paint and has used this medium ever since. Acrylic has a vibrancy in its colors that suits the artist unique style and subjects. Christophorus now resides in Jacobsbaai, a small village between Saldanha and Vredenburg. His art studio is at home where art lovers can view his work.
Other artist that have inspired Christophorus: HG v Aswegen, Christiaan Nice, Wessel Marais, Gabriel de Jongh and Denis Hilton Lees. Over the past 41 years he as sold over a 1000 paintings. He was selected a member of the West Rand art society, Johannesburg when still resided there. He also served on the West Coast art Guild as chairperson.
Other interest : A musician playing guitar and composes his own music. He is a keen Paragliding pilot for the past 30 years.
