Varnishing the painting also brings out the colours to the brilliance with which it was intended in the first place. The varnish also protects the painting from dirt, dust or any pollution, and evens out the final appearance and dramatically improves the clarity of the final product. In addition, UV rays, sunlight and fluorescent lighting can possibly change the pigment in paints, thus causing the painting to fade if it is not protected in some way or other.
