"EXPRESSIONS OF A JOURNEY" IRMA STERN SOFTCOVER, 2003 FIRST EDITION, 191 PAGES, NO NAMES OR INSCRIPTIONS. IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
Irma Stern: Expressions of a Journey is a retrospective exhibition catalogue and monograph published in 2003 by the Standard Bank Gallery. It serves as a comprehensive record of a major exhibition of the same name held from 25 September to 29 November 2003 in Johannesburg. It documents Stern's artistic evolution from 1915 to 1965, focusing on how her extensive travels across Africa and Europe shaped her Expressionist style and is richly illustrated with colour plates of her portraits, figure studies, landscapes, and still lifes. Edited by Paul Cullen, it features a foreword by Elza Miles and contributions from Wilhelm van Rensburg.  The catalogue explores Stern's "Golden Era" (late 1930s to 1940s), including works inspired by her seminal trips to Zanzibar and the Congo, such as Arab Family.
