In 2017, the South African Mint released the world's first-ever Silver Krugerrands. These historic coins mark the 50th anniversary of the Krugerrand series.

First issued in 1967, they were the first of the modern bullion coins. The standard 2017 1 oz. Silver Krugerrand was limited to a mintage of 1,000,000 pieces.

The coin offered here is a proof. No more than 15,000 of these proofs will be struck by the South African Mint.

This coin is not only a numismatic first, but its mintage limit is low for a modern coin. 

The man depicted on the obverse is Paul Kruger. You may notice this design is more detailed than the original.

Both the obverse and reverse were touched up by the South African Mint for the 50th anniversary Silver Krugerrands.

The reverse shows an Springbuck against a South African landscape. The date is split on either side of the springbok, while the face value and silver content are inscribed below it.

The circular mark above its back deserves close examination. This is a privy mark added for the 50th anniversary of the series.

This coin received the grade of Proof 70 and the Ultra Cameo designation from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC).

These mean not only is this coin completely flawless, but it also has striking visual contrast. Its grade is printed on an exclusive Krugerrand label with the South African Mint's logo and a springbuck along with the words "FIRST SILVER KRUGERRAND."
