"FROGS OF SOUTH AFRICA - THEIR FASCINATING LIFE STORIES" BY VINCENT A WAGER. HARDCOVER, COMPLETE INTACT DUSTJACKET, 1986, 183 PAGES, NO NAMES OR INSCRIPTIONS. IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.

The first section of the book deals in general terms with all aspects of frog life. Legends, mating habits, homing instincts, calls, and their many and varied enemies. Their different food requirements are discussed, and especially the value to mankind of those species whose main diet consists of agricultural pests, and mosquitoes. It is shown how mosquitoes can be adequately controlled by biological means in place of the harmful chemical spraying of their breeding places which results in the destruction of most other forms of aquatic life. The last section of the book is for those who wish to have more detailed information about the 101 species and sub-species that inhabit South Africa, and the scientist will find full descriptions that should make possible the ready identification of eggs and tadpoles, large numbers of which are described for the first time in this work.
