A Gold Guinea of George III Dated 1775 (the year before the American Revolution). In an attractive VF condition with a few minor scratches visible in the images. The edge is without any damage.
This coin circulated in the Cape and is an important example of our early coinage. George III was the ruling monarch when Britain finally took control of the Cape Colony from the Dutch in 1806. A guinea is slightly heavier than a British Sovereign (or Kruger Pond). It remained legal tender for may years and latterly assumed a value of 21 Shillings.
