OBVERSE - The obverse has the portrait and the inscriptions : George Washington at the top and 4th President 1809 - 1817 at the bottom.

REVERSE - The reverse features a striking rendition of the Statue of Liberty and the inscriptions : United States of America and $1.

The usual mottos: "E Pluribus Unum" and "In God We Trust" as well as the date and mintmark were moved to the edge of the coin.
