This outstanding, and very large Star Sapphire was earth mined in the Ratnapura region of Sri Lanka (Ceylon). It has one of the most pronounced asterism's (6 ray star effect) that I have seen. 

A good specimen of a Star Sapphire is an essential for any serious gemstone collection, and this stunning example would be perfect for such a collection.
