Regardless of what type of atomizer system you have (bottom coil, top coil, dual coil, tank, RDA, etc.), all personal vaporizers require a heating element, which is usually a wire wrapped around wicking material.
You'll need some very basic supplies to rebuild your atomizer, but today we're just going to talk about the wire used for the coil(s), because that's the one supply with the most variables.
Nichrome vs. Kanthal
The wire that comes installed with most atomizers is a high temperature wire consisting of either Nickel Chromium (Nichrome) or Kanthal (iron-chromium-aluminum/FeCrAl alloy) wire. Nichrome is slightly less expensive, but Kanthal is emerging as the wire of choice for rebuilds. For example, Kanthal wire has a maximum operating temperature of 2550 degrees Farenheit. It melts down at 2732 degrees.

For beginners and pros alike, many of you may not fully understand the benefits of how the different thicknesses of the American Wire Gauge (AWG) Kanthal Wire (KW) can be used with various rebuildable atomizers.
THE FINER THE WIRE = THE HIGHER THE RESISTANCE
The AWG 34 wire (0.15mm in diameter) produces HIGHER ohms over a SHORTER distance, as compared to the commonly used AWG 32 (0.20mm in diameter) which is slightly thicker, but would require more coils to achieve the same resistance.
TWISTING THE WIRE LOWERS THE RESISTANCE BY HALF
If you wish to use twisted wire, you will need to double the amount of coils to achieve the same resistance.
