A historic 1947 Hungarian Republic 5 Forint, struck in .500 silver and commemorating Lajos Kossuth, one of Hungarys most important national figures. This early post-war silver coin was issued during the short Hungarian Republic period of 1946-1949, making it a meaningful piece of European history from the immediate aftermath of World War II. The reverse shows the Hungarian arms with the 5 Ft denomination and MAGYAR KÖZTÁRSASÁG legend, while the obverse carries the portrait of Kossuth with his life dates 1802-1894.
