Robert Briggs Struthers (1822-1892) was a Scotsman who emigrated to the Colony of Natal in 1849, and between 1852 and 1856 hunted on foot in the Zulu kingdom and in the regions known as Tsongaland (or Maputaland) and southern Mozambique. Thereafter he served in the Natal colonial service until his retirement in 1882. His hunting diary of the 1850s is the daily record of a small-scale workman-hunter. The hunting journal (diaries) was edited by Patricia L. Merrett and Ronald Butcher and published for the first time by the Killie Campbell Africana Library, Durban and the University of Natal Press, Pietermaritzburg in 1991.
