MID CENTURY ART GLASS AT ITS BEST!

The term ‘Murano’ refers to art glass produced on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. The history of Murano Glass began in 1291, when concerns about the risk of fire to the mainly wooden buildings of Venice led to the many glass manufacturers there being ordered to move their premises to the small island of Murano. Murano was already a busy trade port at the time and its glass artists soon became renowned for their skill in glass design - and had a monopoly on glassware production for several centuries.

The Murano glass industry boomed during the 1950s and 60s, exporting a vast amount of glassware all over the world. With retro art glass is once again in vogue, this is a highly collectible beauty of note.

- Height : 255 mm

- Weight : 1,517 kg

- Good vintage condition with commensurate signs of age as can be expected from a retro item - minor scuffing on its base and a fleabite on its side.

- Faint water mark (calcium deposit 'ring') in its neck as a previous owner must have left water standing in it. (It does not show up in photographs).

- This a hand-made item and there are some minor tool marks on its back. This is a normal sign of authenticity and is usually not of concern to collectors.
