William Penn for instance: his cheapness; his dreaded awful dinner parties; his occasional habit of emptying his shit pot near Pepys front door. It didn't stop them from being friends, but the way Pepys mutters to his diary about it was very funny. William Penn served a venison tart that stank like the devil.
