If one excludes proof coins, then, according to my research, there are only 12 South African and Kruger coins with a total mintage of less than 990.
They are, starting with the rarest … (Non-proof minting figures in brackets)
1) 1936 Farthing (3)
2) 1934 Farthing (28)
3) 1965 Afrikaans One Rand (35)
4) 1933 Farthing (43)
5) 1923 Gold Sovereign (64)
6) 1931 Tickey (66)
7) “99” Over-stamped ZAR Kruger Pond (130)
8) 1931 Two-Shilling (383)
9) 1931 Half Crown (790)
10) 1874 ZAR Burgers Pond (837)
11) 1965 Afrikaans One Cent (846)
12) 1902 ZAR Veld Pond (986)
Excluding the three ZAR coins, there are only 9 coins on the list: - That means that less than 10 non-proof coins (coins actually meant for circulation) with a mintage figure of less than a thousand were ever minted by the SA Mint.
Of these 9 coins, I am almost sure that NOT ONE has ever sold on Bid-or-Buy.
It is therefore with very much pride that I offer the Afrikaans 1965 One Cent in prime condition. This National Rarity will take pride of place in any advanced South African coin collection: - even in an International Numismatic Collection!
Please see following picture and take into account that I will pay all insurance and postage, so the lucky winner will pay NO extra costs.
(And own a coin that ranks among the rarest of the rare in BOTH South African and International Coins)
This will be my closing item for this year (going out with a bang not even having SEEN this coin before!) and I thank all my clients for their patronage and wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous 2008.
