YEAR : 1804
MODEL : XIII ( Blade Length of 59cm ).
A Superb Example of an ORIGINAL 1804 Napoleonic Wars Fusilier's Briquet-Sabre , as used during the period of the First French Empire. The Model XIII was introduced post-1802 and issued as a general side-arm to all Fusilier's (Infantrymen) , Grenadiers & Non-Commissioned Officers. The presence of the short sabre , was to supplement the loss or damage of the Musket & Bayonet during skirmishing - providing a last defensive measure.
Soldiers of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte's Grand ArmeƩ, would have utilized this exact model of Briquet-Sabre during the Battles of Jena-Auerstedt (1806) , Battle of Friedland & Eylau (1807). This particular specimen has been Proof Marked and Accepted by the French Military Arsenal at Versailles (Paris) , with slight wear due to age and general usage. It is highly probable that a piece such as this might have been present during the last Battle of Waterloo in 1815 - that led to Napoleon's ultimate defeat.
The ideal addition to any Rare and Antique Military Sword / Short Sabre collection - for the enthusiast seeking a genuine period piece from the Napoleonic Wars.
