** ORIGINAL- BORDER WAR : South African Police (S.A.P) / SWA Police (SWAPOL) ID DISC "DOG TAG" **.
This item is in a GOOD, USED CONDITION- Metal Disc / Tag is intact and Force Number is clearly visible. Suspension chain is not present.
FORCE NUMBER : 110887K
Such Identity Discs or "Dog Tags" were issued to all members of the S.A.P (South African Police) throughout the 1960s - 1980s, as well as, to personnel of the newly formed SWAPOL (SWA Police) in 1981.
During the Border War in SWA /Namibia (1966-1989) - practice dictated that each member wore a single "Dog Tag" with a stainless steel flat herringbone chain - contrary to the SADF practice of issuing two "Dog Tags" suspended on a hook and ball closure chain.
This minute detail , distinctly identifies this item as a true period piece as worn by a former member of the S.A.P / SWAPOL - who would have performed duties in the operational area. Identity Discs of this variety would have been issued to personnel attached to various formations such as the regional Riot Units , Counter-Insurgency (COIN) and Koevoet Units active against PLAN guerillas.
A unique and truly rare item, that is not often seen or made available on the open South African Militaria memorabilia market. An ideal addition to any S.A.P or Border War themed collection or display- for the enthusiast seeking that elusive item.
