This item is in an EXCELLENT CONDITION- the Brass body of the shell is smooth and surface clear. All necessary Military nomenclature and markings are present on the base of the shell casing.  The distinctive "U" & "M" , Union Defence acceptance mark is present on the lower left-hand side of the base.

This Brass Shell Casing was used with the 40mm MK4 Bofors Anti-Aircraft Gun System. Originally designed in the early 1930s and manufactured in Sweden, the Bofors was widely adopted by the forces of Great Britain and most Commonwealth countries. 

The Bofors 40mm , was utilized throughout World War II by Allied Nations - and continued to see service in South Africa by the SADF ,well into the 1970s as an offensive ground and air firing system. 

A great addition to any private South African militaria / SADF assortment or display , for the enthusiast who is seeking a brilliant example of Brass Shell collectables.
