You can cut Polianthes for the vase  as soon as the first bloom on the floral spike starts to open, which will ensure your home is filled with their sweet fragrance for as long as possible. To plant Polianthes at home, you'll be pleased to know, is very simple and in a matter of weeks your garden will be alive with their sweet, floral fragrance. Best planted in clusters of 10 - 20 bulbs in the middle level of your mixed border. They do prefer a spot in full sun, but will also bloom well in partial shade. Polianthes grows best if their soil contains enough compost to make it loose, friable and porous. Plant the bulbs with their pointed end upwards, 10cm apart and with a 5cm deep layer of soil covering them.
