An EXCELLENT example of a RARE, 1897 Robertson Volunteer Rifles Band Large Black/White Official Photograph. This piece appears to be in a well-preserved state, with gloss surface finish intact & image field appearing detailed. Inscription marks are evident.
The Robertson Volunteer Rifles were formed in 1890 , from local personnel and were disbanded shortly before the Anglo-Boer War. This Unit served , amongst other formations as the predecessor of Regiment Westelike Provinsie (General Jan Smuts Regiment) - a modern Mechanized Infantry formation of the South African National Defence Force.
