An EXCELLENT example of Original 1967 Dr. Chris Barnard & Heart Transplant Post-Operation Press Release Photographs. This set appears to be in a VF state , with detailed Relief on  obverse. All imagery is  present. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. All associated Press stamps and approval markings are visible on reverse. The images were utilised for publication.

Dr. Chris Barnard was the surgeon responsible for the first successful human heart transplant in 1967. He was born in Beaufort-West in  1922 ; completing his training as a leading Cardiac surgeon. The operation was performed on 3 December 1967 - with the heart from the donor ( Denise Darvall) - being successfully transplanted to the recipient, Mr. Louis Washkansky with a further procedure involving a Mr. Philip Blaiberg as a 2nd receiving patient.
