An EXCELLENT example of a First Type , 1983/1987 SADF General Service Medal . This piece appears to be in a well-preserved state, retaining Graphic design relief for both obverse & reverse. Recipient Service Number is present on Rim Edge & remains legible. Age-related marks are evident.
The General Service Medal was instituted in 1987 for service backdated to 1983 for the prevention of internal disorder & terrorism within the Borders of the Republic. Later issued variants were Numbered on the Medal reverse and no longer on the Rim surface.
The ideal addition to any Border War Era, South African Defence Force Medal collection or display.
