A stunning Bavarian demitasse tea set by the well-known German company, Alka. The set consists of 13 pieces: 5 duos, a milk jug, a lidded sugar bowl and a lidded tea pot. Each piece is beautifully decorated with small flowers against a white background in a chintz style. The rims, feet, handles and finials are all very richly gilded. Typical of German porcelain, the tea cups are quite wide at the top. Note that this is a demitasse set (see dimensions below). The back stamps date its manufacture to between 1938 and 1958. The whole set is in stunning, near mint, condition with no chips, cracks or crazing, and only some very minor gilding loss in places.
Dimensions: Teapot - 19.5cm high to the top of finial and 14.5cm broad from the tip of the spout to the point of the handle; milk jug - 8.8cm high to the top of the handle and 8.5cm broad from the tip of the spout to the point of the handle; sugar bowl - 11cm high to the top of the finial and 9cm high from handle to handle; cups - 5cm high and 7.1cm across (excluding the handle); saucers - 1.3cm high and 12cm across.
