An EXCELLENT example of Border War, 1980s Major-General Deon James Mortimer Photographic & Documentation Lot. This assortment appears to be in a VF/F state , with detailed Photographic Relief and paperwork from the private Album of the General. All items appear present. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. Handwritten notes remain legible , in ink.
Major-General Deon J. Mortimer was the Army Chief : Staff Logistics during the 1980s. This Officer was responsible for the equipment needs of all SADF Units of SWA/ Angola.
In the late 1990s , Major-General Mortimer testified at the TRC ( Truth & Reconciliation Commission) on behalf of the former SADF. The General joined the UDF in 1956 , at the Army Gymnasium- before attending the Military Academy in Stellenbosch during 1957.
Mortimer was the first Candidate Officer, to enter the Defence Force with a Degree of Bachelor of Military Science Cum Laude ( Saldanah Bay). Deon James Mortimer, also served as the South African Military Attache to Spain & Portugal ( visiting Angola & Mozambique).
In 1959 , he was inducted as a 'Ridder' of the Disa-Orde and went on to attend the U.S. Army Infantry Officer Exchange Program in 1963. The course was located at Fort Benning, Georgia- where he completed the Army Ranger Course ( Leadership) and qualified as a Parachutist at Fort Bragg.
The General, is most well-known for his valuable logistical support , rendered to 32 Battalion, 31 Battalion & the Parachute Regiments.
