a rare rsa 1979 gold r2 coin with a historical history
in a great condition please see the image in a capsule
the history so far , this is one of the replacement coins
in the republic of south africa decimal series replacing the british sovereign
as south africa's own currency along with the gold krugerrand
a lot of activity took place when south africa became a republic in 1961
the currency changed into a rsa decimal currency
the gold krugerrand came in 1967 and the end of the british sovereign
the rsa r1 and r2 gold pounds preceeded the krugerrand
only 12,000 minted
this 1979 gold coin's mass is the same as a sovereign and a 1/4oz krugerrand
inscribed with unity is strength / eendrag maak mag
more importantly , the last rsa gold r2 was discontinued in 1983
