This piece remains in a GOOD, USED CONDITION- Blade appears in superb shape and still retains the protective oxide coating (bluing) , with cutting edge & cruciform grooves intact. All necessary Date & Manufacturer markings are present. Original Brass handgrip is complete.

An EXCELLENT example of a RARE , WW1 Economy Mòdele 1886/15 French Bayonet . This piece has been shortened at an Armoury as per the standard 1935 post-War modification reforms.
The Mòdele 1886 was introduced with the Lebel bolt-action rifle , and consisted of a cruciform fluted edge Blade intended for slashing and penetration. This piece is a post-1915 issue , and consists of a solid Brass handle and improved quick-release press mechanism for fitment to Rifle securing lug. The Wartime Economy measures required a materials & design overhaul for Bayonet production , resulting in practical and cost-effective modifications .Affectionately known as the 'Rosalie' this Bayonet has the Serial Number of : 62652 and appears to be in a functional state. A piece such as this- would have been utilised throughout the Conflict and would have been reissued in the French Army until 1940.
