An EXCELLENT and RARE Example of First World War (1914-18) South African Mounted Riflemen Major Rank Epaulettes. These items appear to be in a well preserved state , showing minimal signs of Surface wear. The South African Mounted Riflemen were formed in 1912 as part of the Union Defence Force, and served a policing function in the rural areas of South Africa. The SAMR served in 1915 during the South-West Africa Campaign and were absorbed into the South African Police in 1926.
