The Surrender of the Japanese Southern Armies took place in September 1945 on the island of Singapore. The official acceptance of the Japanese surrender was codenamed OPERATION TIDERACE.
The Allied Victory flotilla, was led by the flagship HMS Sussex , carrying Lord Louis Mountbatten, who accepted the unconditional surrender of all Japanese forces - as it entered Keppel Harbour. The formal Surrender ceremony was held at the Singapore City Hall on Wednesday , September 12th 1945. The Japanese delegation was represented by General Seishiro Itagaki - who signed on behalf of the Japanese Emperor Hirohito.
The Daily Orders are dated September 10, 1945 & provide clear and explicit instructions to all officers and crewman regarding dress protocol and ceremonial decorum in accordance with the anticipated Surrender.
