An EXCELLENT example of a RARE, WW2 German Gebirgsjäger 'Kriegsmetall' Edelweiss Cap Insignia. This piece appears to be in a VF state , with detailed Relief on  obverse. All securing grommets present. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. The Edelweiss Insignia was worn on the Left-handside of the M43 Bergmütze Fieldcap by all members of the Gebirgsjäger Regiments.

The Metallic Insignia was discontinued in 1944, and replaced with an Embroidered fieddress variant for all ranks.
