An EXCELLENT example of a World War 2 , US Army PAL Rh36 Type I Fighting Knife w/ Scabbard. This piece appears to be in a VF/F state , with steel blade and manufacturing markings. All parts present. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. Leather wrap handle and pommel are secure.
The PAL Knife Co.was formed in 1935 , as the PAL Cutlery Company and was contracted to produce knives for the US Army in 1941. Their Type I Model Rh36 was produced in 1942 and featured a 'mirror finish' on the blade. This was altered to a dull parkerized finish in 1943.
These pieces were available for purchase by troops from the local Post Exchange/ PX Stores on base facilities.
