a rare rsa 1979 gold r2 coin with a historical background

in a great condition please see the image in a capsule

this is one of the replacement coins replacing the british sovereign

when south africa became a republic in 1961

a lot of activity took place when the currency changed into a rsa decimal system

the gold krugerrand came in 1967 and the end of the british sovereign

the rsa r1 and r2 gold pounds preceeded the krugerrand

only 12,000 minted

this 1979 gold coin's mass is the same as a sovereign and a 1/4oz krugerrand

inscribed with unity is strength / eendrag maak mag

more importantly , the rsa gold r2 was discontinued in 1983
