A fine example of a WW1 Pattern 1907 sword bayonet by Sanderson for use with the Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) rifle. The bayonet is in excellent antique condition with the locking button functional.
Marks (left ricasso) : Crown and "G.R." (George Rex - King George) over "1907" (pattern model) over "10" and "15" (manufacture date - October, 1915) over "Sanderson" (manufacturer).
Marks (right ricasso) : War Office broad arrow and "X" (bend test stamp) with a number of Enfield inspection stamps and "21" (later inspection date).
Scabbard : Double-stitched black leather with steel top-mount and chape. The top-mount has the teardrop-shaped button which suggests a manufacture date no later than 1915. The bayonet inserts and withdraws smoothly.
Length (bayonet) : 55 cm
Length (blade) : 43 cm
