This beautifully hand carved vintage/ antique? West African (Mali) "Dogon" granary door with sliding latch is an amazing find and is in good condition for its age. The Mali Dogon wooden granary doors or wooden window shutters were a very important part of everyday Dogon life. The Dogon people have always depended on the food they farm, mostly millet which they store in mud brick granaries. The windows and doors of the Dogon granary were sealed by wooden carved doors most of which are embellished with geometrical high relief carvings which evoke protection. This old traditional piece of African art would be a perfect addition to any African collection and would make an amazing conversational piece display on a wall for interior design and home decor. The door measures 32.5cm long x 46cm high. The shine on the doors is from the oil that we have applied to soak into the wood which will ultimately soak in and nourish the wood. Please view the pics carefully to fully appreciate this incredible hand carved Dogon granary door and to confirm the condition.
