BARONESS NADINE - CHARDONNAY 2006
The Wine-Searcher score of 89/100
Chardonnay is the world’s most famous white wine grape and is behind the finest white Burgundies. It is also one of the most widely planted varieties, although it is generally acknowledged that the best expressions of the grape are found in France, the USA and Australia
There are myriad descriptors for the aromas and flavours of Chardonnay. Common aromas range from butter and toast through to tropical notes of banana, pineapple and guava. It is also often described as having mineral properties, such as crushed seashells or metal. Its flavour profiles are equally diverse and include grilled nuts, creamy apples, peach, marzipan, mango and even wet stones.
South Africa wine region
South Africa is an important wine producer, with most of its major wine regions occupying the southernmost tip of the African continent. The heart of the country's wine industry lies in and around the Cape Peninsula and the Coastal region, both of which are exposed to the maritime influences of the Atlantic and Indian oceans. Overall, the climate can be classified as Mediteranean, marked by dry heat and intense sunlight. This is reflected in South Africa’s wine styles, along with a long tradition of quality wine making dating back to 1659.
