Stunning low mintage collector's piece. 1892 Gold Halfpond Double Shaft, NGC-graded at AU50.


Catalogue Number: KM9.1, Hern Z38

Composition: Gold (0.917, 3.66gm)

Diameter: 19.40mm

Mass: 3.994gm

Thickness: 1.55mm

Edge: Reeded

Mintage: 10,150 (incl. 1893 mintage)


Obverse design: Otto Schultz. The obverse features the portrait of President Paul Kruger and the inscription ZUID AFRIKAANSCHE REPUBLIEK around the edge.

Reverse design: Otto Schultz. The reverse features the full Coat of Arms. Along the edge is the denomination 1/2 Pond, followed by the date. There is a star either side of the date.

For 1892 a double shaft (double wagon shaft) variety was minted (KM9.1) and from 1893 onwards a single shaft variety (KM9.2). The double shaft variety features the designers insignia O.S. on the obverse (on the right hand side on the truncation of the bust).
