"SHOOT STRAIGHT AND STAY ALIVE: A LIFETIME OF HUNTING EXPERIENCES" BY FRED BARTLETT, HARDCOVER, 2000, ROWLAND WARD PUBLICATIONS. 206 PAGES, NO NAMES OR INSCRIPTIONS. IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
This autobiography of Fred Bartlett's life, spent first in East Africa and later in Southern Africa, is a fascinating read. He grew up on a remote farm in Kenya, hunting from an early age. After a stint in the Second World War, he joined the Game Department as a game control officer where he shot many buffalo and elephants at very close range.A professional hunter in old Kenya, Barlett hunted the Big Five with special attention paid to buffalo. He describes his adventures hunting marauding buffalo at night and with dogs. He also hunted in Tanzania and Botswana.
This game control shooting provided Fred with a wealth of experience for use during his professional hunting career. By the time he became PH for the legendary Ker & Downey Safaris, he already had more hunting experience than some professionals gain in a lifetime. His professional hunting career took him throughout Kenya and Tanzania as well as into Botswana where he was among the first professional hunters in that country, He guided well-known hunters such as Weatherby Award winner Carlo Caldesi.
