Signed and inscribed by the author, Nick Carter.

Hardcover.

First edition, 1965.

Publisher: Andre Deutsch.

284 pages.

Nick Carter specialised in shooting hypodermic syringes from a crossbow into the backsides of rhinoceroses. In this thrilling and entertaining book he tells how the Kenya Game Department gave him the job of testing this method of capture by drugging, how he made it work, and how he set up and operated a Catching Unit which became famous. Sometimes he stalked the rhino on foot, sometimes he chased them in a Landrover, sometimes he swooped down on them in a helicopter. Whatever the approach, exciting developments were likely to follow, which he describes in a delightfully racy style. Having hobnobbed with so many rhino, Nick Carter knows a great deal about them: his story is as informative as it is entertaining. It is also deeply serious under its lighthearted surface. Nick Carter has risked his neck so often for a better reason than the fun of it. He is passionately concerned to save Africa's threatened wild life, and it is this serious aspect of his work that caused Anglia Television to make a recent film of his activities for their 'Survival' series. Illustrated with b/w photographs.

No jacket, otherwise very good condition.
