This 1966 South African 1 Rand is a standard circulating silver issue, struck during the early Rand period when South Africas currency was still produced in precious metal.
The obverse features the bilingual legend SUID-AFRIKA / SOUTH AFRICA with the portrait of Jan van Riebeeck, while the reverse displays the iconic Springbok antelope above the denomination 1 RAND, accompanied by the inscription SOLI DEO GLORIA.
