This 1967 South African 1 Rand is a classic early Rand-era silver coin, struck during a period when circulating currency was still produced in high silver content.
The obverse features the portrait of the State President with the English legend SUID-AFRIKA / SOUTH AFRICA, representing South Africas bilingual coinage during the 1960s. The reverse displays the iconic Springbok antelope, a long-standing national symbol, above the denomination 1 RAND, with the inscription SOLI DEO GLORIA.
Minted in 80% silver, these early Rand coins are sought after by both collectors and silver investors, particularly examples from the pre-1977 period before the switch to base-metal issues.
