An EXCELLENT example of a Southern Rhodesia Government Issue, Pattern 44 Green Webbing Rucksack. This piece appears to be in a moderate / fair state of preservation - with aluminum fasteners & buckles present - but with shoulder harnesses having been removed. The original rubberized waterproof lining remains complete within the storage area. Rhodesian Government acceptance marks are evident, along with date of manufacture by the Mills Webbing Equipment Company.
The Pattern 44 Webbing Equipment was introduced during the latter stages of World War II, & was intended for troops operating in the Far East. Post-War necessity and surplus stock , resulted in Issue to dominions and territories throughout the Commonwealth. An item such as this would have been utilised by Southern Rhodesia Volunteers fighting during the Malayan Campaign (1948-1960).
The ideal addition to any 20th Century, Southern Rhodesia/Colonial British Militaria collection or display.
